Shannon (Rangitāne o Tamaki nui-ā-Rua, Ngati Porou, Ngāi tai ki Tāmaki me Waikato) is a Solicitor in MC’s Crown prosecutions team. She regularly assists with a broad range of criminal matters in the District Court, High Court and Youth Court. She also assists MC’s Employment team and has supported proceedings involving Kāinga Ora and the Commerce Commission.
Before joining MC, Shannon clerked at the Serious Fraud Office and drafted policy at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development within Te Kāhui Kainga Ora (the Māori housing team).
She was also a Professional Teaching Fellow in one of the University of Auckland’s first-year law courses and regularly acts as an editor for various legal publications.
Shannon has a strong interest in legal issues affecting Māori communities in both urban and rural contexts. She previously served as Co-president of Te Rākau Ture and as Ngā Take Ture Māori Editor of the Auckland University Law Review. An active member of her many iwi, Shannon served as a delegate to the United Nations COP30 on behalf of the National Iwi Chairs Forum.
Recent Cases & Achievements
Shannon has contributed to a variety of research projects, including a Borrin Foundation-funded project and climate change research supported by Marsden and the Royal Society of New Zealand.
