About

Shanayla (Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Pikiao, Tuhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao) is a Solicitor in the Māori and Pacific Legal and Advisory team. She draws on a combination of her legal knowledge and cultural background to advise clients on the appropriate application of te reo and tikanga Māori in practise. Shanayla’s work also includes providing advice on Tiriti related issues.

Shanayla regularly appears in the District Court on criminal matters, and assists with proceedings in the High Court.  She is also involved in regulatory and commercial matters for both government and private sector clients.   

As a fluent speaker of te reo Māori, Shanayla takes an active role in MC’s staff led group, Te Tauhere Manaaki. She is involved in maintaining and promoting partnerships between MC and Māori law student associations
