About

Hannah conducts civil proceedings and regulatory prosecutions on behalf of government agencies and regularly appears for the Crown in criminal matters.  Her practice spans public law, regulatory enforcement and criminal prosecution, with experience across both trial and appellate courts.  

Hannah also has expertise in public international law and human rights.  She has advised governments and international organisations on complex issues including treaty interpretation, human rights law, international humanitarian law and accountability for international crimes.  Her international experience informs her domestic practice, particularly in cases involving rights-based arguments and the intersection of international and domestic law.  Her practice comprises both litigation, including State interventions in proceedings before the International Court of Justice, and advisory work.

Hannah also serves on the New Zealand Law Society’s Human Rights and Privacy Law Committee and is a member of New Zealand’s International Humanitarian Law Committee.  

Recent Cases & Achievements

Acting for public sector clients in judicial reviews and public law proceedings in the Human Rights Review Tribunal, District Court and High Court.

Criminal prosecution work, including representing the Crown in jury trials and appeals.

Assisted on proceedings under the Fair Trading Act 1986, Land Transport Act 1998, Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, Customs and Excise Act 2018 and Radiation Safety Act 2016.
