About
David is an experienced regulatory and commercial litigator with particular expertise in financial services, civil forfeiture and corporate regulation and enforcement. He has acted in contentious, advisory and investigations matters for a wide range of public and blue-chip private sector clients here and in Australia, including the Financial Markets Authority, the Companies Office, the Official Assignee and ASX-listed corporations and leading financial services firms.
He regularly appears in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal as lead counsel. He has significant prosecution experience as lead Crown counsel in regulatory prosecutions and jury trials in the District and High Courts. He also has assisted clients in alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediation.
He has recently returned to MC from Sydney, Australia where he practised in commercial litigation at a top-tier firm.

Acting for the Crown and Financial Markets Authority in civil and criminal enforcement proceedings for insider trading.
Taylor v Attorney-General
Acting for the Attorney-General in a two-month civil trial defending negligence and human rights claims relating to maximum security prison.
Commissioner of Police v Vinnik
Acting for the Commissioner of Police in obtaining restraining orders over $140 million linked to the collapsed bitcoin exchange BTC-e.
Cheah v R
Appearing as sole counsel in the Court of Appeal for the Commissioner of Police in New Zealand’s leading case on civil profit forfeiture under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act.
