About

Carissa (Tainui, Ngāi Te Rangi) assists in a wide range of commercial and civil proceedings and has a particular interest in cases involving white-collar crime, corporate fraud and investigations. Carissa also acts for the Crown in criminal proceedings, having appeared in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal.   

Before joining MC in 2022, Carissa worked at a large NZX and ASX listed insurance company as the Assistant Company Secretary, assisting with all matters relating to corporate governance.

Recent Cases & Achievements

Assisting with litigation involving a company’s claims against former executives and auditors following accounting irregularities

Acting for the Crown and the Financial Markets Authority in criminal proceedings, including the prosecution of insider trading and mortgage fraud

Acting for private international clients against a fund manager and Financial Markets Authority regulated broker to recover investment funds

Co-author of the “New Zealand” chapter in J. Seddon et al (eds), The Practitioner’s Guide to Global Investigations (GIR, Eighth ed. 2024)
