Pearl assists in a wide range of commercial and civil proceedings for both government and private sector clients. She also prosecutes criminal proceedings in the District and High Court.
Prior to joining MC, Pearl worked at a boutique criminal defence firm in central Auckland. She has also previously worked in legal aid services at the Ministry of Justice.
Recent Cases & Achievements
Pearl wrote her Honours dissertation on section 30 of the Evidence Act 2006 and, in particular, whether the proportionality balancing test should be replaced with a prima facie rule for excluding improperly obtained evidence.
Pearl has also written academic papers on the efficacy of the three-strikes sentencing regime, and the regulatory framework governing lawyers conduct.
Her research paper on “Cleaning Up the Legal Professions Act: How to Tackle Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination” was cited in the Independent Review Report, commissioned by the Law Society in 2021.
