Nick Flanagan


Nick is an experienced criminal and civil litigator, and specialises in preparing and arguing complex and novel cases. He makes regular appearances in the Court of Appeal and High Court, and has acted as Junior Counsel in the Privy Council.

He has particular expertise in contentious commercial matters such as shareholder disputes and large construction cases. 

Acted for the Ministry of Education in one of the largest civil claims filed in New Zealand, relating to construction work on several thousand schools (Ministry of Education v James Hardie & Ors).

Acted in the prosecution of South Canterbury Finance, one of the largest and most difficult criminal cases ever brought in New Zealand.

Acted for the Commerce Commission in a civil claim against multiple Freight Forwarders operating in New Zealand. This was a large anti-competitive cartel case, involving difficult questions of extra-territorial jurisdiction.
