Karlene O'Halloran

Senior Solicitor 

Karlene is a senior solicitor in Meredith Connell’s Criminal Proceeds Recovery team. She acts for the Commissioner of Police in High Court civil proceedings under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009. Karlene also acts for the Crown in criminal proceedings.

Prior to joining Meredith Connell, Karlene was a solicitor in the civil litigation team at a commercial firm in Auckland where she had a broad practice in commercial, property, and employment litigation. Karlene has appeared in the District Court, High Court, Maori Land Court, Employment Relations Authority, and Tenancy Tribunal.

  • Junior counsel in a three week High Court trial dealing with implied contract terms and allegations of overcharging upwards of $1 million.
  • Junior counsel in a Maori Land Court trial regarding application to remove multiple trustees from an Ahu Whenua Trust, involving allegations of bribery and corruption in breach of the Secret Commissions Act 1910.
  • Counsel for prominent social media influencer applying for and obtaining without notice orders under the Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015. Successfully obtained permanent orders following a hearing in the District Court after interim orders were opposed.
