Joanna Beresford


Joanna has significant experience in  local government and resource management law.  She regularly works with clients and their teams of technical experts to create effective strategies to achieve the planning and development outcomes sought.

Joanna has acted for a range of clients, including individuals, community organisations, developers, local authorities and Government departments. She has appeared before local authority hearing panels, the Environment Court, Boards of Inquiry, the High Court and Select Committees.

She has experience in negotiation and resolving environmental disputes including representing clients in mediation.  She also has experience in due diligence for the environmental aspects of property and commercial transactions.

  • Acting for applicants and submitters affected by large scale infrastructure projects including Wiri Mens’ Prison, Ruakura Inland Port, City Rail Link, and MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway.
  • Successfully opposing a retirement village redevelopment a on behalf of local residents in the Environment Court.
  • Acted for applicants and submitters on large scale rezoning applications for the urban development of the Hingaia Peninsula Special Housing Area.
