Jane Mctavish Butler
Jane has acted in a variety of high-profile cases, significant negotiations, mediations, and memberships of professional bodies in the legal, building and construction industries.
She obtained the first judgment for consequential losses to home-owners in the Weathertight Homes Tribunal; she was counsel in the High Court in the leading Sunset Terraces building negligence case and has run more civil trials in the District Court, High Court and the Court of Appeal than can be mentioned here. Jane has presented to professional bodies within the construction industry and is also a member of the faculty for the New Zealand Law Society Litigation Skills Programme.
She was a supervising solicitor for the New Zealand Law Society Duty Solicitor Training Programme from 2000 to 2003.
- Managing a large-scale litigation project for a government ministry, including trial preparation, expert evidence, negotiations, mediations, numerous High Court proceedings, preparation of policy documents, Ministerial documents and consequent requirements.
- Appearing as counsel in New Zealand's first multi-unit development defective building trial in the High Court, assisting in preparation on appeal to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
- Representing and advising a range of commercial clients in property litigation, mortgage disputes, large-scale redundancies, insolvency and enforcement issues.
