Jane Mctavish Butler

Jane is involved in a variety of high-profile cases, significant negotiations, mediations, and memberships of professional bodies in the legal, building and construction industries.  She holds both parts of the New Zealand Law Society Mediation Certificate.

Among her best known cases in the District, High and appellant courts, Jane obtained the first judgment for consequential losses to home-owners in the Weathertight Homes Tribunal, was counsel in the High Court in the Botany Downs Secondary School litigation, and in the Sunset Terraces building negligence matter. She was involved in the criminal jury trial relating to the first charges of theft of trade secrets prosecuted in New Zealand.  Jane presents to professional bodies in the construction industry and is a member of the faculty for the New Zealand Law Society Litigation Skills Programme.
