Harrison Smith

Harrison is a prosecutor in the Crown Specialist Group.

Harrison prosecutes criminal jury trials on behalf of the Crown in the District Court and as junior counsel in the High Court. He regularly appears in District and High Courts for pre-trial, sentencings and appeals. 

Harrison also appears for the New Zealand Police in the Youth Court and on appeals to the High Court.

Prior to joining MC, Harrison was employed by preeminent criminal barrister, Ron Mansfield QC. Harrison regularly appeared as junior counsel in District and High Court jury trials across New Zealand. He also assisted Ron as second chair in serious and complex cases, including appeals to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Harrison brings with him from this role experience in large scale drug and organised crime operations, serious violence and sexual offending, including homicide.

  • R v KM - assisted as junior counsel up to and including trial, defending a 14 year-old charged with murder in the Whangarei High Court
  • R v Momi & Ors - assisted as junior counsel in a multi-accused jury trial in the Auckland High Court, defending charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and injuring with intent to injure
  • R v Naufahu & Ors - assisted as junior counsel in an 8-week multi-accused jury trial in the Auckland High Court, defending organised criminal group, serious drug offending and money laundering charges
