David Taylor

Senior Solicitor 

David has experience in regulatory, commercial and public law litigation.  In addition to his work in the regulatory team, David appears for the Crown in criminal prosecutions.

Before joining Meredith Connell David worked as an Assistant Crown Counsel in Public Law at the Crown Law Office, where he gained broad experience in public law litigation.  Prior to Crown Law, David worked in litigation at top-tier commercial firm in Auckland and undertook post-graduate study in London.  David has worked on files at all judicial levels and has appeared as lead counsel in the High Court and District Court.

  • Lead counsel for the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Social Development in a case stated appeal against a decision of the Social Security Appeal Authority: Greenwood v Chief Executive of the Ministry of Social Development [2017] NZHC 44.
  • Junior counsel for the Attorney-General on behalf of the Minister of Health in appeals challenging High Court decisions regarding the validity of regulations related to the fluoridation of drinking water (CA529/2015) and whether certain fluoridation compounds were medicines under the Medicines Act 1981 (CA615/2014): New Health v South Taranaki District Council [2016] NZCA 462, [2017] 2 NZLR 13.
  • Junior counsel for the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Social Development opposing special leave to appeal: Harlen v Chief Executive of Ministry of Social Development [2017] NZCA 648 and [2017] NZSC 87.
